Improving network reliability for an Academy Trust
In early 2025 an academy trust contacted Remodi as the Cisco and Cisco Meraki networks at a number of their schools were unstable and causing problems for both students and teachers. The trust wanted to make the network reliable and easier to manage, but didn’t have a budget for new hardware.
The Remodi team were able to connect remotely using the trust’s Cisco Meraki dashboard and quickly found a number of issues that were the likely cause of the problem. The core switches at multiple schools were upgraded with new firmware and reconfigured from Meraki monitored to Meraki managed mode. A variety of changes were also made to the other switches in the networks to ensure reliable operation.
The changes resolved the reliability issues that the trust was experiencing and also improved the network security as a number of patches and upgrades were deployed. The performance of the network also increased as the trust was now able to use some more advanced features that previously had only caused more instability.
Having successfully fixed the networks for the trust, Remodi are now working on further security and performance improvements, as and when budget is available.
Securing VPNs for a Local Council
In late 2024 a local council who were concerned about the steeply increasing number of attacks on their secure Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) from overseas. They feared that it was only a matter of time before someone managed to find a way in. The council sought a solution to protect its systems as they were not prepared to tolerate the possibility that the data of their citizens and operations be compromised.
Our team at Remodi quickly assessed the situation and were able to reconfigure their Cisco and Extreme equipment across the council’s estate. This ensured that the VPN concentrators are now protected from attack by third parties. We also took the opportunity to look at their overall security setup and suggest further improvements.
Since the work was completed, the council has reported that the none of the attacking probes are getting through, whilst allowing the required operations of the council and its partners to continue.

Our approach not only protected the council’s data but also provided peace of mind that their systems are resilient in the face of increasing cyber threats.
